Composition:

Each 100 gm contain:

– Streptomycin sulfate 100 gm

   (eq to streptomycin base 79.82gm)

Properties:

Streptomycin sulfate: Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30s ribosomal subunit (Bactericidal).

Indications:

For the treatment of:

• Mainly Gram –ve bacteria as:

    – Salmonella

    – E.Coli

    – Pasteurella

• Some Gram +ve bacteria as:

    –  Clostridia

    –  Staph

Advantages:

• Vaxstrept has lower nephrotoxicity compared to other aminoglycosides.
• Vaxstrept is poorly absorbed from the GIT, which results in high efficacy against enteric infections when administered orally.
